Vintage Yachting Game & Tin By Channel Craft
New York version lets you set sail from New York City, round Long Island, and make your way back to the Statue of Liberty.
Enjoy the vintage game of Yachting by Channel Craft, one of the few remaining toy and game manufacturers committed to producing their top of the line products right here in the United States.
Game instructions are permanently printed on the lid for easy reference.
With guidance from the New York Historical Society, the Association of Game and Puzzle Collectors and Playthings Past, Channel Craft has faithfully recreated the most intriguing pastimes of an age gone by and developed Travel Games that will captivate the whole family for another hundred years to come.
As a sport, Yachting made its Olympic debut in Greece at the 1896 Games.
Similar versions of this historically accurate game were produced in the late 1890's with the goal of navigating around a race course to reach the finish line before your opponent.
The playing pieces were originally cardboard ships mounted on wood bases with a spinner to indicate the number of spaces to advance your vessel. The first to reach the course's end was the winner.
The pieces in this modern version have changed, replacing cardboard ships with solid wood pegs, and the spinner with a pair of long lasting dice. The gameboard is self contained in the vintage tin that holds all the pieces securely in one place.
The Yachting lithograph on this tin is an original McLoughlin Brothers box lid from the 1890's.
Perfect for lazy days afloat, on the road, or at home.
This is an addictive little game that can be enjoyed by anyone age 6 and up.

Channel Craft has been manufacturing Authentic American Toys, Games and Puzzles that are "Quality Crafted" right here in the U.S.A. for over 25 years now.
You'll find American Pastimes that are produced by skilled craftsmen and women to ensure aesthetic beauty, durability and great play value.
Channel Craft began as a one-man operation back in 1983 from the back of a step van / traveling wood shop, when president and founder Dean Helfer, Jr. drove from craft shows to folk festivals peddling his hand-crafted wooden products. He would arrive at a craft show the evening before and set up his traveling wood shop for the next morning ready to sand and sell his products that were finished right before the customer's very eyes. The craft circuit opened new avenues and provided the necessary cash flow to put together a true manufacturing operation.
As the years went on, Dean and his crew settled in the small mining town of Ellsworth, Pennsylvania to set up a "permanent" shop to hand craft his goodies. At this point, Dean had rubbed elbows with many other U.S. toy and game manufacturers and had worked out distributor partnerships to sell their products along with the Channel Craft toys. These partnerships turned into lasting business and personal relationships that would begin to bring together the cohesive theme of "Authentic American Toys, Games and Puzzles made in the USA."
Space constraints required Channel Craft to seek out a larger manufacturing facility if they wanted to continue producing the American Pastimes that had brought them this far. In 1991, Dean and Channel Craft settled into an old Army Corps of Engineers building south of Pittsburgh on the banks of the Monongahela River in Charleroi, PA. With upwards of 70 employees, Channel Craft was "Quality Crafting" toys, games and puzzles for thousands of museums, specialty toy and gift shops, mail-order catalog companies and department stores.
With an addition of a new warehouse and shipping facility (left) in 1998, Channel Craft currently occupies three buildings (Manufacturing, Assembly and Shipping/Receiving) and continues to hand craft Toys, Games and Puzzles right here in the U.S.A.
Each year, new products grace the pages of their catalog and are tailor-made for each specialty toy and gift store, museum, park and attraction. You'll never find Channel Craft products in the major discount stores or worldwide superstore chains. Continue to look for the "Quality Crafted Fun" that is still made right here in the U.S.A. for another twenty-five more years to come.
