The Myerchin A500 Safety/Dive knife was originally designed for members of the Southern California Coast Guard Auxiliary. These members wanted a stout knife that could quickly cut though the heaviest lines and a sheath that could be securely laced to their gear. Over the years the MA500 has become regular equipment for the Coast guard, Merchant Marine, divers, climbers, and anyone who needs a quality safety knife. The MA500 is ground from a single, heavy bar of high-carbon 440 C stainless steel. It has been kept as flat as possible. The serration pattern was chosen because it can cut through line most efficiently, retain its edge, and be sharpened easily, although this knife rarely needs a sharpening. When the time finally does come, the serrations can be easily resharpened with a tapered round file Since this knife is slightly magnetic, it should be kept away from any compass on board. Lifetime guarantee. Includes an all weather sheath with multiple lace holes and a belt loop so that it can be worn vertically, horizontally or laced to a harness. Available in either a knife/sheath combination, or a knife/marlin spike/sheath combo. Please choose the combination you need from the drop down menu above the product description. After all, there is no such thing as organic steel, brass, or aluminum. Like most things on greenboatstuff.com, we try to envision the impact our gear has on the world around us as it is made, used, and ultimately lost or discarded. In addition, we believe a product you only have to buy once in your lifetime is much greener than a cheaper version you will replace countless times. With this in mind we offer an assortment of high quality products that are designed for you to pass on to the next generation. You won't find cheap, disposable stuff here, just the best boat gear we can find that makes a minimal impact on the environment. In every case, we try to carry boat gear made and finished with materials that do as little harm as possible. As a result we avoid chrome, nickel and zinc plated items due to the impact the plating process often has on the environment. The same goes for chemical-based painted items, plastics, and other synthetics. While natural fibers, wood, aluminum, stainless steel, brass, bronze, and the other materials we prefer to carry are not always entirely earth-friendly, we believe they represent the best choices available at this time.
